Not withstanding a steady 6/8 knot South Westerly dictating that Runway 06
should be the operative "Strip" a steady line-up of General Aviation on
Runway 12 "forced" us to start the day there albeit it was not long before
"common sense" and safety saw all aircraft moving to Runway 24 before the
North Easterly kicked-in and a finish-up on Runway 06 was the order of the
day.

L2 was Barry McCarthy assisted by L2 Tony Sorensen ...."Tuggies" included
John Knox, Karl Brody and Steve Bowtell who we all owe an ongoing vote of
thanks to....Members included Kevin Dobbie, Charles Hoch, Ken Mitchell, John
Nestor, Arthur Mailey, Judith Smith, Nathan Bowtell and Kevin Rodda.

Also seen on the flight line/field were former Members Kevin Roden, Leon
Moran and John Nestor's Partner Anne. I heard on "the grape-vine" that Kevin
"dropped-in" for a flight but there were too many ahead of him so he left
early.

From around approximately 10-30a.m. the sky "boiled" with lift everywhere as
demonstrated by training flights in the Blanik L13 coming down on full
airbrakes after 30 minute flights for aircraft utilization

with perhaps the highlight of the day being John Nestor managing two
noteworthy flights of 32 and 50 minutes to achieve his B Certificate
....well done John.

Arthur Mailey and Judith Smith came down after an hour as Judith had an
appointment to attend.....Kevin Dobbie challenged the thermals for 43
minutes,  Charles Hoch and Karl Brody had a great flight of 1 hour 14
minutes BUT the flight of the day went to the "wood and fabric" brigade
Member Kevin Rodda in his Ka6 of 1hour 53 minutes.

Actual statistics were:-

GYK             3 Hours 11 Mins

CQC            2 Hours 33 Mins  GRV             2Hours 03 Mins

Total of 12 Flights.

At this stage weather conditions look good for both Saturday and Sunday so
Members (particularly all our ab-initio students)  are encouraged to get to
YCAB and enjoy the great flying conditions on offer.

Also a reminder that the Caboolture Aero Club Inc Annual General Meeting is
this SUNDAY.

Safe Flying.

On Behalf Of The Friday Crew.

PS.    I understand that Kevin's and "Speedy's" latest addition i.e. their
1956 built Kookaburra will be flying tomorrow.......so come and see this
great little glider in action.

[From Kevin Rodda: I was talking to Kevin Roden on Thursday and, when he mentioned that he was collecting family from Brisbane airport Friday morning, I suggested he call in to YCAB on his way down from the Sunshine Coast to see the Kooka and maybe come for a flight in her. KR2 has a fondness for Kookaburras as he did a lot of his early flying in one. Embarrassingly, I got held up with some matters in Brisbane and forgot about the arrangement I had made him until I saw Kevin at the flight line when I eventually arrived at around 1100. He was only still there because, soon after arriving at YCAB, he had received a call from his passengers to say that they were still on the ground in Sydney after their flight from the USA and that their flight to Brisbane had been delayed by 2hrs due to a runway surface problem. It was great to catch up with him and to see him looking so well!]
