For
the last week 30 gliders pilots from 3 states have spent
their time at Massie Field, Warwick learning and
instructing the fine art of glider maintenance.
I’m
not sure of the best description of the weather, cold
mornings and nights, clear days, lazy breezes that go
through instead of around you and several beautiful
sunsets.
Sunday
morning before it got cold. That is frost.
Wednesday
morning. The next day was too cold to photo.
Cold nights
ushered in by glorious sunsets!
Caboolture
Airfield was represented by Speedy Gonslaves and David Guzzwell
(from CGC) and Phil Behnke (from Pacific Soaring). I was
privileged to be asked to instruct on the course.
This
isn’t an every day sight --- Speedy using a 9” grinder
on an FRP panel.
David
studying the intricacies of a K6 wing root.
Phil
lying down but he really was working on a Hornet's inside
workings.
Speedy
taking notes on the K6 for future reference.
Speedy
and David adjusting the K6.
Caboolture
is very fortunate to have a person with the talents of
Speedy as a member. The photo above shows him being
presented with his updated G1109 certificate by Stuart
Addinell, RTO/A Qld. This was no ordinary presentation.
Speedy is the only person to receive a Major Repair rating
in Qld for the last 7 years. They are rare. His rating is
for Major Wood repair. He also received a Minor FRP repair
rating and a Survey rating for All Types.
David
receiving his G1109 certificate for Annual Inspector All
Types.
Phil
receiving his Annual Inspector FRP certificate.
Congratulations
to these members for their hard work on the course to gain
what is essentially a Rating for hard work.
A
last note on the weather:
Speedy
is a hardy soul who sleeps in his van when away from his
cozy home bed. Think of him Saturday morning ... about 9am
he picked up a cloth from the back of his van and wondered
why it as very stiff and hard ... to was frozen solid
...... remember that was about 9am.
