First Flying Report of the Year

Sunday
4 January, again due to the combination of holidays
and weather, was Caboolture Gliding Club’s first
operational day of 2015. It was a busy but quiet start
to the year.
The
busy part began early when Lindsay Mitchell and Neil
Schaefer tackled the vegetation around our containers
and tie downs with their own personal equipment.
Lindsay’s brush cutter and Neil’s lawn mower have
now turned incipient jungle into a neat and tidy
facility for the rest of us to enjoy - so a polite
thank you would be in order next time you see either
of these gentlemen.
Lindsay
was there as part of the duty crew and he continued to
be busy as the quiet part of the day - the flying -
got underway from about 10:30. He had three passengers
booked for AEFs and they accounted for fully half of
the day’s gliding sorties.
Yes,
that’s right, just six flights for a pretty quiet
start to the year. Again, weather was a big factor
with the longest flight being 37 minutes from 4,500’
and the shortest just 9 minutes from an (admittedly
optimistic) 2,000.
Kevin
Rodda also self-launched but did not find much
soaring. Perhaps he should have taken the hint from
Bert and Speedy’s decision to leave their gliders in
the shed and work on the Kookaburra instead!
However
one flight was significant as the first member flight
in many years for aero club committee man and Chipmunk
pilot John Hitzke. We are very pleased to welcome John
back into the club!
Thanks
to Steve Bowtell in the tug and Rod Elsworth in the
pie cart for a quiet but quite successful start to the
year.

stats: GYK 6 flights 2:03
