This
hot weather is taking its toll or maybe the
longer days are chewing up the spare time at the
end of the day. Whatever the reason, sorry to be
late:-
Once
again our instructor, Barry McCarthy, and
tuggies, Karl Bodi for the morning shift and
Steve Bowtell later on, had a busy day - in
these warm, windy conditions, a wearying task we
all appreciated them undertaking.
We had
Ken Mitchell working on achieving his solo
status and the adventures to come while John
Nestor, accompanied by Ann, returned to continue
his training in GYK once we got to runway 12.
Bob Hainsworth and I took CQC off under the
cloudy sky and found patches that provided lift,
interspersed with great sink holes. Bob recorded
the longest flight of the day in a Club aircraft
for his flight which was finally forced back
once a light shower appeared over the industrial
area. Back at base, Barry and GYK continued
ferrying our student contingent into the air for
their training flights with no further rain but
plenty of warm sun as the sky cleared to blue.
As
Arthur Mailey returned from his search for lift
in CQC’s subsequent flight, Bert Persson
launched in Alex Horvath’s Ka6, XOF, for its
check and took honours for the longest flight of
the day at 1.10 after which Alex was keen
to try it for himself with a 15 min flight.
Urged on by Bert and Speedy and with the wind
still blowing but swinging to the north Alex
took his second flight off 12 and landed on 06
as did CQC and GYK in their final flight for the
day. By the time everyone had arrived there and
packed everything away, we were content to pause
for a little re-hydration in the cool of
Kevin’s hangar where Alex received
everyone’s congratulations and talk turned to
reminiscences and the day’s exploits, in
particular, those of the Ka6 fraternity.
Vince
Everett joined us for an annual check and helped
us with the end of day tasks and rounding up of
the gliders. It is good to see you back Vince.
Barry
asked me to make a note of a rivet working loose
above the wheel fairing of GYK on the starboard
side. It is noted in the maintenance release.
Stats:
CQC, 4 flights for 2.27; GYK 8 flights for 2.20
and XOF, 3 flights for 1.42.
On
behalf of the Friday crew, best wishes everyone
for a great flying year during 2013, and also, a
safe year.
