When
the second flight of the day - a pre-solo training
flight in the Blanik - is the club fleet flight of the
day, you know the soaring days of summer are here.
Such
was the case for today’s small (or should I say
select?) crew.
55
minutes and 45 minutes were the two best two seater
flights, scored on consecutive launches by Theo Mus
and visiting Air Force Cadet Zac Troughton with Duty
Instructor Dave Donald and me doing the talking behind
them. Next best was 24 minutes for Rod Wilson’s AEF
passenger.
But
when the sea breeze set in and the sky went blue above
us, the rest of the day was short - an introduction to
the IS-28 followed by a welcome return to the Blanik
for Steve Morris, a low level emergency followed by a
brief solo for Duty Pilot Adam French and that was
about it, at least for the two seaters (Bert and
Speedy doing their usual thing after second
breakfast).
Totals
for the day:
CQC
5 flights 1:50
GYK
3 flights 1:30
All
towed by Tony Esler from RWY06 while the rest of the
power jockeys gritted their teeth and pressed on with
ever-increasing cross winds on RWY12.
The
moral of the story is to make it an early start for
soaring tomorrow - and slap on some extra sunscreen!
