20¢ Friday

   02-Nov-12

It was a windy day that greeted the small group of gliding stalwarts  who had gathered at the airfield this morning (Bob Turner, John Knox, Bob Hainsworth, Karl Bodi, Shane Tuck and Kevin Rodda). We were joined later by Tony Sorensen, and then after lunch by Steve and Nathan Bowtell.

Five flights were launched in the IS-28 (from runway 12).

- Shane Tuck and Bob Turner 18 minutes
- Bob Hainsworth/Karl Bodi 19 minutes
- Kevin Rodda/Matt Watt 28 minutes (AEF)
- Tony Sorensen/Shane Tuck 14 minutes

The air was very bumpy up to about 1,500 feet which meant that keeping in station behind the tug took a fair bit of concentration as well as a lot of stick and rudder input.

The strong and gusting winds were straight down 12 ... providing some good practice opportunities in terms of circuit planning/execution under less than favourable landing conditions.

Matt Watt (a Dash 8 Customs Pilot) and Paula Easton had flown down from Cairns for a few days in Brisneyland. Matt thoroughly enjoyed his  birthday gift ...

The following photo records a significant event for Caboolture Airfield ... an event that took place quietly in the background of normal activity at YCAB today. The hangar doors were open for business on Sandora Aviation's last working day!

Meanwhile, back at the tie-down area, there appeared to be a little vandalism taking place ...

But alas, it was only today's crew "finishing off" an already dangerously damaged chair so that Shane Tuck could take to the garbage tip. Pictured below are Shane, Karl Bodi, Bob Turner, Bob Hainsworth and Tony Sorensen ...

And just in case you were wondering about the reference to  "20¢ Friday" ... well ... someone had early in the day commented that we had two Bob's at the pie-cart!

Safe flying,

Kevin Rodda

O'Hare Approach Control: "United 329 Heavy, your traffic is a Fokker, one o'clock, 3 miles, eastbound."
United 329: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this... I've got the Fokker in sight."
