After a few weeks of having no tug due to maintenance a tug was found to allow some glider flying. The day looked promising, with fine weather forecast the first day of spring looked like having conditions for some soaring.

Duty pilot Alan Graham was eagerly preparing with Andrew Cowley when I arrived at 7:30. We were soon joined by Mick Maloney, Garrett Russell, Tim Williams, Bob Hainsworth, Mike McCluskey, Mark Thompson, Michael Burnett, Tony Sorrenson, Karl, Bodi.

With the wind swinging around the IS-28 was towed to runway 12, where the decision was made to switch ends! Tim Williams was first up at 9:16 and the air felt buoyant.

The IS-30, after having the front tyre replaced thanks to Bob, was now at 30. Garrett completed instructor checks with Mark and Mick.

Most flights now had soaring with some great climbs to the roof. Bob tried venturing away to the 4500' step during his 1hour 8 minute flight. Tim Williams and I completed a large circumnavigation of the airfield cruising at 90knots trying to avoid the lift.

Lindsay Mitchell and Speedy spent part of the morning completing the annual inspection on Blanik GYK before taking it for a spin at midday. The Blanik is back online now and Mike quickly made use of it with more training flights. A big thanks needs to be conveyed to the maintenance crew. Speedy spent the afternoon doing some paint work on SPA which could be back next weekend. Obviously the lack of cumulus cloud confused Speedy and he missed a great soaring day.

On his first solo, Tim Williams did an exceptional job doing a text book take-off from 30 with a perfect landing on 12, following another wind change. After celebrating his 15th birthday last weekend, Tim takes over the position as the clubs youngest pilot

David Lillistone called in after doing some powered flying to complete the last flight before 4pm, completing a perfect Spring day.
