Saturday was one of those days that inspires Queenslanders to say its "Great one day, Perfect the next". Not quite true as it wasn't perfect for soaring but still a great Winters day.

The Duty crew of Mick Moloney, Duty Instructor, Mike McCluskey, AEI, Steve Chapman, Tug, and myself as DP set up operations on RWY06 and stayed there for the day.  Aviators of other disciplines tried using 12 and 30 till they accepted 06 was the best.

We welcomed Rory Rearden as the newest member to the CGC clan. Rory has power flying experience but the smile on his face after his 4 initial training flights with Mick Moloney showed his pleasure at coming over to the the 'light' side of aviation and enjoying flying the Blanik.

Rory and Mick look pleased with their efforts.

Mike in the 30 only had the one passenger flight but that was for 1:08.    The flight as upgraded from 3,000 to 4,500 ft but an inversion layer about 3,500ft negated the extra height but that didn't reduce the pleased look on Mike's passenger's face.

Speedy (Bernie Gonsalves) looked at the few cu's attempting to form so got the Kooka out with Karl Bodi's assistance. The cu's must have been watching him and disappeared but he still managed 15 minutes with Karl on board as ballast. Good to have Speedy back in double minute flight times after as series of decreasing time flights. Kevin Rodda sensed the Kooka was flying and came to the field for 2 flights both for 17 minutes. Kevin tried to claim bragging rights over Speedy but I think 15 minutes from 2,500ft is over 17 minutes from 3,400' and 3,500'.

Thanks to 'Grey Beard' Steve for gently and smoothly towing the gliders into the air.

8 flights for the day.

GYK did 4 for 1:36.

GQA to 1 for 1:08 and

GLM 3 flights for 0:49.

Have Safe Fun Flying,
