Subject: Video of tug power failure on launch

This 40-second video shows a safe outcome for a tug engine failure on launch, just as the glider got off the ground.

A good one to show to your early students to show that the instructor is not being a sadist and these failures do really occur.

This has been reported to the GFA as an incident.

The caption that accompanies the vie on YouTube says...

Tug plane loses power on the takeoff roll. With glider at 15ft and rapidly overtaking, quick action by the rear seat instructor to drop the tow-rope, avoid hitting the tug and land to the right of the strip ensures a safe "textbook" outcome. A well-deserved lunch break was then taken!
