Sunday
was CAC fun flying day.
Mike
McCluskey, Kevin Rodda and myself represented the gliding club
amongst all the powered entrants. Simon
Descovich flew rear seat with me and flew one circuit to the
spot landing. Mike took the representative from Angel
Flight with him, helping to share the gliding experience. We
all attempted three of the four tasks set.
Spot Landing:It would seem
we all hit the spot, or were very close, in our two attempts
each at the spot landing, which was far better than some of
the other aircraft attempts I witnessed.
Timed
Circuit: Pilots had to nominate a time, to the second, to
fly from take off to touch down. I believe I was the only
serious attempt at this and came surprisingly close to the
7min 28sec nominated time from a 1200' launch.
The other
task was a "navigation" exercise, asking questions
of observation. Obviously we fell short here even though an
answer was given for each of the questions.
We
all had fun doing something a little different, bringing out
some competitiveness in us all.
Watch this
space, a glider only 'comp' might be organised to add a little
variety to our operations one weekend.

Comment
taken from Simon Descovich's report re Sunday:
"Spot landings - Both Kevin's nailed that, but unfortunately the umpires saw WUC's
hover above grass at a 3 inch height to be a touch-down and he got no points
... or whatever the prize wasn't"
