Sunday at Caboolture 08-Jun-09

This "classic" report on the day's gliding operations from David Higgs (with photos provided by David Higgs and Lindsay Mitchell) just had to be "preserved" on the website ...

At least we had some willing pilots today !!
Unfortunately things slowed down when this started rolling in around 9.30am ...

We got the gliders down to runway 12 and it then turned into this ..

so we decided to “stow all loose items” ...

cid:image011.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

and seek refuge in the caravan ...

cid:image013.png@01C9E7AE.10192960

and think evil thoughts about those who brought coffee in ...

cid:image012.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

The rain started sprinkling ...

cid:image014.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

and then the rain started raining ..

cid:image015.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

and then the rain started pouring ..

cid:image016.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

and the boys kept sitting ...

cid:image017.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

until it was all over.

Bryan Carpenter came out and ceremonially draped runway 12 in a few large white crosses, closing it down for operations.

We broke camp and moved up to 24 where the sky was obviously so much better ...

cid:image019.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

but the ground was just as boggy, as JC found out in the van – Lindsay to the rescue...

cid:image018.png@01C9E7A6.BCE87C70

and as we found out with QA – Lindsay to the rescue, for an hour  ...

We managed to eventually start flying at lunch time

JC spent most of his time towing gliders back on retrieves. Tony also kept his feet on the ground the whole day.

I ended up doing the only instructional flight of the day, joining David Hawes for the longest flight of the day – 44 minutes of instrument-covered Blanik soaring.

We squeezed in 8 flights between 11:56 and 15:05, for 2 hours 24minutes of up-in-the-air time.
