The SG 38
Schulgleiter (English: School glider) is a German
high wing cable-braced single-seat primary glider that was
designed by Schneider, Rehberg and Hofmann at Edmund
Schneider's factory in Grunau in 1938. It played a critical
role in pilot training for the Luftwaffe in the Second World
War.
After
the war, Schneider migrated to Australia and set up as a
glider manufacturer in Adelaide ... ES-KA6 (under licence
from Alexander Schleicher), ES-52 (Kookaburra), ES-59
(Arrow), ES-60 (Boomerang) and ES-65 (Platypus).
Oh, and the
maximum L/D for the SG 38 is listed as "about 10"!
