Saturday at YCAB 18-Jul-09

In a rare Saturday appearance, John Clayton took the helm today along with Leon Moran, Steve Chapman and myself as duty crew. With Blake Redsell, Mick Moloney, Ray Colley and Ian Ardler as keen aviators and shared Duty Pilots for the day – we were the Saturday crew.
Much to Ray’s dismay, the Libelle had to remain firmly in the rafters, sans canopy and undercarriage. We prepared Blanik GBJ and Twin Astir IKW before setting up camp on runway 12 for the day.
Our AEF didn’t show but Blake was expecting Mum, Dad and friend for passenger flights at lunch time– the only thing missing was an endorsement to fly the Twin. So, two check flights, a solo flight and a log book signoff and he was ready to impress. Those at Caboolture Week last year would remember Tony, his Dad, as our all round helper and tireless retrieve driver. He has been refusing all flight offers, waiting patiently for Blake’s endorsement. Blake’s next three flights were very well received and were definitely in the spirit of “family and friends”. Congratulations on your endorsement and flights Blake.
During the morning Mick was called into the Principal’s office (aka Honda Accord) for a serious talking to, emerging to be taken aloft for a couple of JC’s standard Blanik flights – stalls, spins, chandelles and general behaviour unbecoming an L3 instructor –more commonly known as AEI training. After a quick ratification by Brian Wade, Mick’s logbook was given the official seal of approval – the teddy bear stamp.
Well done Mick on a much deserved achievement as AEI.
By lunch time there were clouds about and lift was on offer, gladly taken by Leon for 40 minutes in BJ
Much to our surprise Lindsay rolled up with the Form 2 completed Libelle in tow, now with canopy and carriage. He was keen to chase Leon with the thermals but unfortunately she was rather noisy on her check flight VNE run and was hoisted back into the ceiling for further investigations.
Pleasant day, great stats:
   - 7 flights in GBJ for 2 hours 21
   - 8 flights in IKW for 2 hours 20
   - 1 flight in GJY for 19 minutes
   - a new Twin Astir pilot
   - a new AEI
   - everyone got their feet off the ground

   - Drinks by Mick
