 John Sharman Award 2011

17-Sep-11

Olga Sharman and Lindsay Mitchell make the presentation to John Clayton (right) at the Club BBQ held after the 2011 AGM.

John Sharman's widow Olga was on hand to make the presentation of the Club's inaugural JOHN SHARMAN QUIET ACHIEVER AWARD and commented that she was very grateful for the opportunity to present the inaugural award to John Clayton.

Mrs Sharman commented ...

"It is important to recognise the contributions of quiet achievers like John, who often make significant difference to the success of small groups such as this club. I canít tell you how touched and honoured I am to be asked to do this by Lindsay on behalf of the club. That John has been remembered this way means a lot to us and to his family in England who wish they could be here too."

"He was passionate about gliding and took every opportunity he could to come up here. For John, whatever he did for the club was not a chore. He really enjoyed doing it. While he was a humble man who liked to quietly get on with the job, I'm sure he would have been very chuffed to be associated with this award. It means so much to us that he has received recognition by the club he really loved and the people whose company he so enjoyed".

"Iíd like to say a big thank you to Lindsay and the Committee for remembering John in this way and also a big congratulations to John Clayton for receiving this well deserved award".

The John Sharman Quite Achiever Award has been introduced by the CGC Committee to recognise individual members who, like John Sharman, continually contribute to the running of the Club without seeking recognition or praise.
